Why We Use Advanced Imaging
Many clients ask us, “Do I really need these scans?”
Our Clinical Lead Optometrist and Director, Hannah Shooter, answers with confidence: nowadays, I wouldn’t want to examine eyes without them. The NHS eye examination has remained largely unchanged since 1946—but just think how far medicine has advanced since then. With the technology now available, why wouldn’t we use it to give you the most complete picture of your eye health?
A Better View Of Your Retina
The main reason we use enhanced imaging is to gain a much clearer, wider, and deeper view of your retina—the light-sensitive layer at the back of your eye, where many eye conditions first begin.
Traditionally, optometrists examined the retina using an ophthalmoscope (a small torch-like device) or a volk lens paired with a slit lamp. While these tools are effective, they only allow a small portion of the retina to be seen at a time—and it takes years of experience to interpret what’s visible.
We often describe it like trying to look down your hallway through a letterbox.
With our imaging tools, it’s more like opening the front door.
Quick, Painless, And Reassuring
All imaging is quick, comfortable, and completely non-invasive. In many cases, it also removes the need for dilating drops—making your visit more pleasant and efficient.
Most importantly, these scans allow us to provide you with complete peace of mind. You’ll leave with a clearer understanding of your eye health today—and confidence that we’re watching out for your future vision too.
