The Ultimate Eye Examination
Why is it one of the most important appointments for your eyes?
Your eyes are one of the most complex and delicate parts of the body. They allow you to experience the world around you, yet many eye conditions can develop slowly and silently, often without noticeable symptoms in the early stages.
That is why a thorough, technology-led Eye Examination is so important, especially as we get older or if there is a family history of eye disease.
At Pinders Opticians, we believe your vision deserves time, care and clinical attention. Our Ultimate Eye Examination is our most comprehensive assessment, designed to give you a deeper understanding of your eye health and complete reassurance.
Taking around 45–60 minutes, the Ultimate Eye Examination allows us to assess your vision, eye health and visual needs in much greater detail than a standard appointment. Using advanced diagnostic technology, we can look deeper and wider into the eye, helping us detect and monitor changes that may not yet be affecting your day-to-day vision.
What makes the Ultimate Eye Examination different?
The Ultimate Eye Examination includes a detailed prescription update, advanced retinal imaging, a lifestyle-based vision consultation and time with an experienced clinician who will explain your results clearly.
It is not just about whether your prescription has changed. It is about understanding how your eyes are functioning, identifying any early signs of change and helping you protect your vision for the future.
OCT scanning
OCT scanning allows us to view the individual layers of the retina and optic nerve area in remarkable detail. This helps us detect and monitor early signs of conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease and other retinal concerns.
Because many eye conditions develop gradually, this level of detail can be extremely valuable. It allows us to build a clearer picture of your eye health and monitor even subtle changes over time.
Optomap widefield retinal imaging
Optomap widefield retinal imaging captures up to 200 degrees of the retina in a single image. This gives us a much wider view of the back of the eye than traditional retinal photography.
This wider view helps us examine the peripheral retina and identify changes that may otherwise be more difficult to see. It is particularly useful when assessing overall retinal health and looking for signs that need monitoring or further investigation.
Dry eye, tear film and eye comfort
The Ultimate Eye Examination also allows us to carefully assess the parts of the eye that are sometimes overlooked, but are essential for clear, comfortable vision.
Your lids, lashes and tear film all play a crucial role in the quality and stability of your sight. If the tear film is not working as it should, your vision can become blurred, changeable, tired or uncomfortable even when your prescription is correct.
Modern lifestyles can place extra demand on the eyes. Many of us spend long hours using screens during the day and into the evening, which can reduce how often we blink. Central heating, air conditioning, changes in diet and hydration, and the increased use of skincare, make-up and eye products can also affect how well the tear film works.
By examining the front surface of the eye, eyelids, lashes and tear film, we can better understand how your eyes are functioning. This allows us to give more personal advice to support your comfort, protect your eye health and help your vision feel more stable throughout the day.
A more personal approach to your vision
Alongside the clinical assessment and advanced imaging, you will receive a full prescription update and a lifestyle-based vision consultation.
This gives us time to understand how you use your eyes every day whether that is for driving, reading, screen work, hobbies, close detailed tasks or time outdoors. Your eyewear and vision solutions should fit your life, not just your prescription.
You will also have time with a clinician who listens, explains your results clearly and answers your questions. At Pinders, we do not believe in rushing your eyecare. We want you to feel informed, relaxed and confident about your vision and eye health.
